    new bow

I really want to get started bow hunting next year. How much would a good bow and acc. cost me to get ready for the season next year. I have hunted with a rifle all my life and I have a place that I hunt that is really suited for bow hunting. I think it would be a great way to get out in the woods earlier to scout and see what I have been missing before the rifle season starts. Any suggestions.

Many options to choose from with a wide variety of price range, I would just recommend going too a local archery shop and not a big box store and get fitted correctly, thats more important than any brand

Thanks Popstone, that is good advice. I just wanted to get some research done before I go buy. I had an old bear I bought about 15 years ago and I really enjoyed shooting. I am sure it was a far cry from what is available today. What do you shoot?

Just pick a dollar figure you want to keep close to, and go to the local pro shop, shoot a few or more in that price range. Make sure about your draw length. If they measure you for 27" don't buy a 28"! You will shoot better with your correct draw. You might try different lengths to find the right one.

Thanks 3c, that is one thing I will definitely do. I have now idea about what draw length to use and I know that is important. Thanks

I used these guys. http://www.huntersfriend.com/ Not suggesting you do, but they do provide quality, succinct information that you can use to make your own buying decision.

Buy what you can afford and then practice. And then practice some more. It is all about muscle memory. Let the bow pick you as far as how it feels when drawing the bow and how is the back wall. Best of luck.

Start with craigs list or the classifieds here. You can probably get a bow, arrows, and accessories mixing new and used for $400 or so.

To answer your $ question, between $500 and $1500 (for everything) ranging from bottom of the line 'decent' gear to top of the line gear.

I agree with Popstone, know what your looking to spend and visit with your local archery shop. They should have a few bows that you can shoot, pick the one that feels comfortable and shoots the best to you. The pro shop will custom fit that bow to your draw length and peep height. You will leave a happy customer. Remember that when purchasing through the classifieds you could be paying for someone else's mistakes. And with no warranties it could end up costing more in the end.

                      1). Figure out your budget.
2). Expect at minimum 400.00 fully outfitted bow.
3). Ignore brand names I've got almost all of them and all of them shoot the arrow equally as well as I am able to aim, hold steady and release.
4). Don't go accessory crazy. You'll spend 3x as much on new sights, release, rests, etc...
5). NEVER EVER EVER GO CHEAP ON ARROWS!

Learn how to draw, anchor and release consistently and your set for whatever bow you put in hand.

ITS THE INDIAN NOT THEIR EQUIPMENT

there are several bows that rigged out and ready to hunt with everything you need can be done at about 600, that is bow arrows sight rest release, broadheads... martin has a great line up starting at 300$ and going up to well above that, they offer great quality, price and service.... there are others but none of them offer more for you than martin
