"You're going to have to list all your guns on your 2010 tax returns!!!"
If I had a dime for every time I've been forwarded that email I'd have, oh I dunno - a couple of bucks or so. I'm kind of puzzled at the number of my friends, aquaintences and even clients - otherwise smart and discerning people - that keep forwarding along this stuff before checking it out. The version I got this morning includes a twist that I thought was kinda funny. After the normal dire warning about having to list firearms on tax returns it said "This is not a hoax - it's been verified as true!" and has a link to a snopes.com story which when you click on it - actually debunks and refutes the entire email.
I'm not making light of being vigilant when it comes to preserving our 2nd Amendment rights - I just think that too much "crying wolf" is detrimental to the cause. Most of you already know this but rumors of this type can always be checked out at the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action.
Here is their comment on so-called SB 2099
