    Computer monitors

Is there as much difference in a 1080dpi monitor and a 720dpi monitor as there is in televisions?

Yes, with a good set of eyes.
Photo processing is enhanced a bit.

On smaller screens you will be hard pressed to see the pixel difference. the larger it gets, the more noticable it is.

To be honest unless you have a use for it not really. Are you sure you're not referring to 720p and 1080i, etc? DPI is a print terminology that is "Dots Per Inch." Most graphics on a computer are 72ppi (pixels per inch). It can get very confusing comparing computer standards (VGA, SVGA, XGA, etc) with tv standards (720p, 720i, 1080p, etc). Can you like the monitor you're asking about?

                  Following is copied and pasted:
                  Digital TV - SDTV:

                  480i - 704x480 interlaced
                  480p - 704x480 progressive
                  Digital-HDTV:

                  720p - 1280x720 progressive
                  1080i - 1920x1080 interlaced
                  1080p - 1920x1080 progressive
More Accurate - Listing the resolution and frame rate:

                  480i - The picture is 704x480 - (60/2 interlaced frames per second)
= 30 complete frames per second.
                  480p - The picture is 704x480 - 60 complete frames per second.
                  720p - The picture is 1280x720 - 60 complete frames per second.
                  1080i - The picture is 1920x1080 - (60/2 interlaced frames per second)
= 30 complete frames per second.
                  1080p - The picture is 1920x1080 - 60 complete frames per second.
