We usually start putting out protein March 1st after the season ends and feed through September. We start the corn feeders beginning of September and feed through March.

First of Jan till Oct. Usually if you feed protein durning hunting season it makes it harder to kill certain deer (protein hounds) because they will still be able to stay more nocturnal

Just like that Swanger said, YESTERDAY! Feeding year-round is best, but if that's not an option, I would feed from the end of hunting season to the beginning of hunting season. Or at least fill 'em up one last time around the beginning of August, so they have it til their velvet is gone.

We feed year round. We fill ours once a month. Our biologist recommended keeping it going year round. We tried one year to shut it down but we saw a decrease in the amount of animals on the property. Our fawn crops have been tremendous the last few years. It's a win-win situation.

I only have 160 acres. How many protien feeders should we put out?

one right in the middle and close to a water source. Remember, if you feed they will come

We only have 125 acres and keep 3 300# feeders going year round. I had a bright ides to stop them during hunting season (so they would come to the corn feeders better) and some of our best bucks disappeared until I refilled them. We started them back up after Christmas and I won't make that mistake again.

Most times, the deer will empty them in a week or two. I am amazed at how much they go crazy over it.
