Water softener problem... any experts out there?

I have a three year old water softener and the tank where the salt goes is filling up with water. Anyone dealt with this problem before?

    Thanks,

    Alan

What is it doing? Just filling up the brine tank with water? Is it overflowing?

Please forgive my ignorance with this thing, I don't really understand how they work. What is considered the brine tank? The area where I pour my salt is filling up with water.

It normally has an adjustable float that turns the water off. It sounds like it is stuck in the down position.

I had a water expert at my house from 6 - 8:30 Friday night. I kicked him out at 8:30 because he had been pissing me off being a pushy jerk since about 7:30. His system seemed to work pretty well though!

Do not buy one from those door to door salesmen! Water softners are all about the same. Culligan is who we get them from for our plants and I have bought there home versions for less than $1K. It is probably the float stuck or some of them have a valve (i call it a foot valve) down in the bottome where your fill tube goes in that can hang open. Tinker around with those things and keep us posted.
