Anyone tried the Alaska Bow hunting arrows? I'm looking for something with the slim shaft but weigh more than the average on the market.

I noticed the AB stuff does not mention straightness or shaft weight! They only talk about ball park finished arrow weight. Is this because of what Mudslinger is mentioning on how they all vary once built, or, because the shafts he has do not have very tight tolerances?

I shoot an older bow....Mathews Outback 70lb and 30" draw so my numbers are up there anyway. I agree with all saying that momentum doesn't matter IF you have a perfect shot, through the lungs. But, in my book, hunting is all about reducing the chance of wounding / loosing. Anyone ever read the old reports on culling donkeys, horses and other large stuff with 22-250's compared to larger game? It's a deadly cartridge and probably can kill just about anything on the planet with a good bullet and perfect shot to the lungs, but that doesn't mean it's the best out there and it's certainly not good on large animals with marginal / error shots.

I want my setup to give me the most forgiveness if I do mess up. Going after wounded animals sucks.

This would be a really cool test to not only look at the above numbers but also add different broad heads to see the best penetrating broad head as well, heck I would even pitch in on some of the cost on the gel, and will send one of my broad heads...??

if you have 88ftlbs of KE and its moving @311fps why would need more? I'm kinda new to the KE game, but I thought anything in the 80's was more than enough to blow a Mech broadhead though both shoulders? I have very similar numbers with my Pse Axe7 and CX Mayhem's and I shot a 300lb+ boar in the grizzle plate and it broke him down just fine.

KE is great, but MOMENTUM is what you really want to look for when looking at the penetration ability of an arrow and broadhead combo. I tried the homemade version of the ballistic gel and the batch that I made from the instructions I had would not stop any of the arrow/BH combo's I had. The penetration tests I did was on a brand new Blob target and each shot was into an area that had not been shot before. Not real technical, but it did show some differences.
