Barrel length has nothing to do with ballistics or pattern. Choke controls pattern, most autos are plenty long with a 26" barrel which means you can manuver it easier in the blind. Sporting clays shooters use 30" or 32" O/U for sighting plane, but dont have confinement like a hunter would
Basicaly the only advantage that I know of is with 28" you get a little longer sighting plane. Suppose to be better for pass shooting. I'm equaly bad with both.
