    ??? about predator hunting

ALright, the foxpro has a couple of notches in the predator category now but I still have no real clue what I am doing in terms of calling in predators. That being said, what would be a good time to call and hunt after several inches of snow has fallen and the wind has finally died down. Night, morning and evening, or all day in the snow? Just wondering

I have found that from about 5:30 in the afternoon to about midnight is the best for me. A full moon will help to.

I have always had my best luck and dusk and dawn..... But I have seen many a video of predators being killed at all times of the day, hot or cold.

My outlook is......... Try it anytime you get the itch. If it pays off, great! If not, at least you weren't sittin on the couch in front of the idiot box all day!

I dont know what call you have we have FX-3 and it is loaded with sounds but work great for us is to start off with a squeaker call and then move to a bird distress and then go to your rabbit and then jack. works great anytime day time hunting is way more fun then at night in my opinion. the lighting jack call has to be my all time fav on foxpro. good luck

i got the fx3 also....i usually start with a quail or woodpecker distress hoping to call in a cat. I dont know why because even when I call in a bobcat I dont notice till I stand up and he runs off anyway....after the bird distress I move to cottontail or jack..... I like the way you do it might have to try it like that also

how much time do you give between different sound.... how long do you let them play? when can I shoot a bobcat finally

Ya Barry we need to try it, hopefully they will cancel school tomorrow so we can call after I feed cattle. Then Saturday might be pretty good.
Any tips will help guys, we arent the best callers in the world.

+1 on Lightning Jack! Last two I've called came to that tune I like to hunt first light 'til I start sweating.

I did cheat just a little this year on a bobcat. I got a tc pic of one at around 11:00 one day. got out as close to that time as I could the next day. I set up 100yds or so from the camera and killed a cat just about 7 minutes later.

Best times are at night or early morning or dusk. BUT when it is cold anytime is good. They are very hungry and will redily come to a call. If the yotes have not been called then you are in for some great excitement. The Foxpro must have line of sight to operate and I have found it usefull to tie a small rope on the caller so it can be hung from a tree. What makes the Ecaller superior is that you can put the caller away from you and keep the wind in your favor. A decoy of some sort is a good idea just to give the yote something to lock in on. I carry a foam turkey decoy. I personally start off for about 30 seconds and sit in silence for 5 to 10 min. Repeat. If nothing shows finish the set female invitation or pups in distress. One thing that i have learned is you can call in as many yotes using yote sounds. Let us know how it goes.

I got a foam turkey decoy that wips around with the wind, we might try that, thanks for the help.

Ive always been successful at first light and in the evening. But I have called them in during the middle of the day when its 90 degrees. Before and after a storm has been good also. If its overcast I will hunt all day. I do change spots often. Almost every yote ive called in has showed up within 5 min or so. I wont sit at a spot longer than 30-45 min. I start off calling soft for about 2 min, then give it a rest for a min or so then start again but a little louder. When its hot I like to start by sitting near a water source.

I like first and last two hours of the day. But...coyotes can be called all day. They are much like dogs, they sleep alot but that doesn't mean they aren't up for an easy meal at noon.

I like the female invite, challenge bark, snowshoe hare, pup distress and starling. Start with the invite or challenge a couple of times. Go to a distress call off and on for a few minutes. If you get one coming in from a distance, stop the call and only start it back if it hangs up. Always assume there is more than one. If you get one, immediate go to the pup distress for a few minutes. Might be surprised how often you get a second one.
