Anybody know of a goot boot repair place in Abilene? I need to find a new one.
For years I have always taken my boots and shoes to James Leddy's to get them resoled. They have always done phenominal work. My boots would come back fitting exactly like they did before, and they would be shined and polished. Price was always very reasonable as well. Last time was $40 or so.
Last week I took in a pair of boots and a pair of dress shoes to Leddy's. I was in a hurry and just dropped them off. When I went in to pick them up, I about fainted. The bill was $130 - $65 per pair. The new soles looked fine, but the boots were not polished. In fact, they were scuffed from the work.
I put on the pair of shoes a couple days ago to come to work, and I could barely squeeze my feet into them. Also, the footbed padding had been removed. These were very nice and comfortable dress shoes that I'd had resoled once before at Leddy's. They came back just as comfortable and well-fitting the first time. But this time, they are crap. Feels like I'm walking on $5 flip-flops, except they squeeze my feet so bad they go numb.
I tried the boots on after that, and they are just as messed up. I had to struggle to get them on. I called Leddy's this morning to tell them about the problems, and the guy told me that if I'd bring them in he could stretch them for a small fee. Oh, and they'd sell me some insoles for the shoes since the built-in insoles they used to have were apparently trashed. I just laughed.
It appears that they don't have the same people working there anymore. Maybe new ownership?? At any rate, it's a lesson learned. I bought some new boots and will take these newly soled boots and shoes to Christian Service Center. Somebody with narrow feet can likely make good use of them.
