    Draw Length question

A friend of mine is about 6'5" and someone told him his DL was 30". This seems a bit too short and I was thinking he'd need a 31 or maybe even a 32.

What do you think? I'll try to measure him this weekend.

All depends on arm length, shoulder width and where he is going to anchor. Most important thing is to get it right.

Like Mudslinger said, depends on how he is put together. My opinion is that most archers shoot to long a draw length anyway....

Tru Dat...I never believe anyone when they say that someone else told them they were a certain draw length. I've always used the tape measure method, by just having them stand with their arms out to the side, but relaxed not stretching. Measure from the tip of one middle finger, accross the chest, to the tip of the other middle finger. Then divide that by 2.5. Theres several people that dont like that method, but i've used it on myself as well as quite a few other people and its never been wrong yet.

Tracey, I think draw length is in the eyes of the beholder. Whatever is comfortable for the shooter. Like Don(Bo) said, a lotta folks shoot too long a draw length...IMHO.

          Good Luck

I went and had my draw length checked just the other day and the guy said I was a little long. So my ??? is should I get it fixed or should I leave it alone where its at due to I feel comfortable with it, and also I put a whisker bisquit on my bow and noticed that it sits lower than the other thingy I had, so now how much am I going to have to readjust my pins???

I give myself 1/2" past the back of the longbow.

I like mine shorter than its supposed to be. Mine comes to the corner of my mouth and barely touches the tip of my nose. More comfortable that way imo.

                    The wingspan thing works.

When yu have too long of a draw, you develope a bad form. Sometimes more arm slap, and not as stable anchor. It is now coool to have a shorter draw, than many years ago! This is not science but your friend at 6'5" could be 32" but he could have short arms and long legs making him a 30" who knows... the one that measures him!

I am 6'5" and my draw is a 29". So it doesn't sound wrong to me if he was fitted at 30".

Sounds about right. Most guys shoot around 1"-2" too long of a DL. I think mainly with the ingrained "longer is better" mentality and to get more speed. I'd say if properly fitted the avg DL is 27-28" so 30" sounds about right for what you described.

Tracey you know me & my dad, Jason & Larry Thompson from Canton. Enoch & Stacey shoot @ On Target Archery with us.
My dad is 6'-8" w/ a 34" draw & I am 6'-6" w/ a 32.5" draw. We are blessed with orangutan (sp) arms. My dad is over 7' fingertip to fingertip, so you never know.
I say measure & go from there.
