    Super Duper for Trout Fishing

Here in Midland and Odessa we both got a pond stocked with Trout from the TPWD. The Super Duper lure is just tearing them up. I'll catch a trout every other cast if it's in the right spot. These trout are good eating too.
On a side note. What is the best way to kill a trout so It's not flopping all over the place while your gutting it?

Trick from an Alaska salmon guide. Pull a gill and let em bleed out, improves quality of meat, simple I know.

I forgot to mention to fish the lure slowly and you'll catch a lot more.

The lure is called a super duper. Get the gold with the shiny reflective on it (not just the dull brass) and you'll tear them up if you slowly fish it where they are. Also use really light line like 4lb or 6lb. I couldn't catch them on anything else but salmon eggs and powerbait and that was slow.

Pop it on the top of the head with the butt of your knife.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking that the best way is to just knock them out. Another great way to catch a lot is to slow real a salmon egg on a small hook. The slow action on it is the key though. It makes them think it's getting away for whatever reason they have to take it.

The trout released in my area pond have been tight lipped. I guess I will need to try this lure

The only time I fished these stocked trout that lure was deadly.

Start by holding the fish like this - away from the water, in case you drop him:

Stick a knife through the fish just under the back of the gill plates next to the bottom of the spine and then cut all the way out to the belly side. Just slit the "throat" - don't cut through the spine. You'll cut the main arteries between the heart and the gills, and he'll bleed out fast.

Next, cut the gills loose where they come to a point under the "chin". Grab the gills and pull them out.

Slit the stomach open from the vent to where the gills used to be and remove the guts. Drag your thumbnail over the underside of the spine to scrape out the black stuff (whatever it is).

Swish the gutted fish in the water to wash it out. Now you have a gutted trout with the head still attached.

Once you get the hang of it, it just takes a few seconds to do all of this from start to finish. He won't have time to flop much.

Cut off the pectoral fins and the hard plate that goes behind the gills. You can go ahead and cut off the other fins and tail too.

You can carry them like this now, if you want to:

                          Works for salmon too.

When you get home, go to the kitchen sink and turn on the hot water. Hold the trout by the head and run hot water over all of the skin from the back of the head down to the tail for a few seconds. This will scald the skin and make it turn loose very easily.

Now grab the head and break it off by bending it back towards the fish's back. Keep pulling down towards the tail, and you'll peel all the skin off.

Mix lemon pepper and a little Tony's in some corn meal. Dip the fish in milk and egg mixture and then the meal. Drop in some hot grease until golden brown.

Flake the meat off the bone when eating. Don't swallow a bone!

Catch and release! The ones they stock around here aren't big enough for my trouble. Fun to catch but eatting those boney little slimy suckers is just too much trouble.
