Does anyone know what type of tree this is?

I really hate this tree but it does have pretty white flowers on it during the spring. Its next to my front gate and I can't tell you how many hours a year I spend trimming it. Any tips on how to stop it from growing like this. It also sprouts out of the ground a few feet around it.

Isn't that a truck in the background? Does it have a trailer hitch? Problem solved.

Just a guess. It's hard to tell from your pics but it looks like a Gum Bumelia (Bumelia lanuginosa). Also called Chittamwood.

LOL I tried that a few years ago with my buddies beefed up chevy, the tree didnt even move. I like having a tree there but its a pain in the butt and I don't want to dig a hole to plant another one, 1 ft down is nothing but rock.

Don't know what kind of tree it is, but if you drive a copper nail into it, it will die.

not a crepe myrtle, I have several of those in my yard that I can't kill and I've tried everything including pouring gas on them and setting it on fire and drilling holes in the stump and pouring weed killer in it. Same thing with the stupid rose bush, it grows back even meaner every year. I've given up on trying to have the yard I want. lol

I wouldnt mind it so much if I didn't have to constantly trim it. is there anything I can put on it so it doesnt grow like that? Its not a bad looking tree when it doesnt have stuff growing out the bottom

not real sure, maybe some type of overgrown shrub.

                  1.) Chainsaw
                  2.) Drill
3.) long 3/8" drill bit, drill as many holes as deep as possible
4.) used motor oil in each hole
5.) let it soak for a week adding a little more every day
                  6.) a kitchen match
                  7.) a lawn chair
                  8.) cooler full of beer
                  9.) water hose handy
                  10.) PROBLEM SOLVED

what you got you there is a privet. Mostly shrubs, but they can grow to tree length too. Do a google search for privet, and see if the flowers are the same. Good Luck getting rid of it if that is what you want. They are pretty hearty.

I think thats what it is. I wouldnt mind keeping it if I could figure out how to keep it from growing out the bottom.

Edited to add I just did some reading and it looks like a lot of people hate these trees. Thanks for the info!

put a ring around it, fill it with mulch, and ta dah!!!!! New flower bed and covering the offshoots i think will keep them down.

If I cut it down any suggestions on other trees to plant that are not as much of a pain. I'm allergic to pecan shells so no pecan trees. and something with small leaves so I don't have to rake leaves in the fall.

Try tarring the exposed areas after you trim it this spring.
