I used to play around with it a little and my best advice is to look up Dan chase taxidermy and order a catolog. they have everything you need and instructional tapes on the step by step process. good luck
Most guys that want to "try" it usually end up taking their stuff to a professional later on. If you really want to learn, the best way is to find a GOOD taxidermist who will show you the ropes.

I used to tattoo. It was very tiring getting someone to show me the ropes. Do taxidermist show people the ropes? I would assume not. Any tips on how you went about doing that?
I could never afford a taxidermist, that's why I started to learn the art. I still have a long way to go but every mount is progress. ps don't start off mounting a trophy buck. Start with something you won't regret screwing up.
I got on a taxidermy kick a few years ago, spent about 5 years doing it. Gave it up when I realized how much time and work is involved in producing a nice looking mount.I had too many other hobbies, activities and commitments.Give it a try,you might be cut out for it,but be aware,it is time-consuming.
