    SAFETY HARNESS DANGER!! Please read

Got a call this morning about a co-worker of a friend who had a bad fall from a treestand this weekend. They were hunting in Davy Crockett NF and the hunter was 18' up and leaning out against his harness. It snapped and he fell on his face. Broken face, ribs and wrist along with everything else bruised and hurt. He's in the hospital in Lufkin. Alive, but...

REMEMBER to always inspect your safety harness before each use. Never, ever, "lean" against your harness. Get a new one every couple of years as wear and tear happens. If you use your harness to drag a deer out of the woods, get a new one. And only use a saftey harness approved by the TMA (Treestand Manufacturers Association).

Be safe and play smart people. I don't want to hear about another accident!!!

Sorry to hear about the fall. Glad your friend is still breathing. EVERYONE should heed WCBs advice here. You can never be too safe!!! Mike, do you happen to know what brand it was?

Just got an update. Ribs aren't broken, just brusied. But his face and Rt. wrist are. Lot's of pain meds...
Planning on hunting this weekend with a smokepole as he can't draw a bow.
How much you wanna bet he ain't in a tree stand???
He had an uncle fall out of a treestand a few years back and died. This family needs to buy some stools and stay low. Real low...

First of all, anyone who hunts in a tree without a harness is an idiot. You really hate to hear when someone who is wearing the safety gear still falls and gets hurt, however he may be dead had he not had one to slow the fall somewhat.

There are a lot of safety harnesses on the market now and it is worth the expense to buy a good one. It is cheaper than the deductable on your health insurance I bet.
Remember, 1 in 3 hunters who go up will fall! That is a pretty scary figure.
