    Which Treestand??

In my first post I mentioned that I might elect to ground hunt.Several replies to that post said take to the trees. So,I did some scouting yesterday and I think I will take to the trees.I found a nice pecan tree that offers good cover up high in the 15-20 ft range, sets @ 15yds off the trail leading out of the creekbed. The hogs come out here to root my pasture.
    So,whats the most popular,climbers??,Ladders??Or hangers ??????
I have hunted(gun) tripods and boxes all my life and the only trees I ever did was just a few boards nailed up and it sucked......yall help me out here...thanx.,,,and heres a sample of whats runnin around my back yard.

API baby grands(lock ons) are nice. Big seat and platform.

As far as climbers go, Summit seems to lead is sales while those with money prefer the Lone Wolfs.
I own an API, Summit and recently picked up an old man which I haven't hunted from yet.

Compare the weight when shopping; they get heavy quick so keep an eye on it if you plan on packing the stand in with you (sneak attack).

I second the API Baby Grand. Like mine. You might consider a climber if the trees allow. Give you more versitility.

If you have limited trees that will work then pick your best tree such as your pecan, hang a hang on with a good ladder on and get it rigged out up top with your bow hanger, pull up rope, fanny pack holder, and safety rope attached. I really like the RiversEdge hang on. It can be bought for $69 has a big platform and a very good seat. It has a built in foot rest you can't see in the photo. Get a plastic cover that slips on and off the seat that way you can leave the seat on between hunts.

Here is the Riversedge I like

Here is the must have safety rope. Just leave it hooked up at all time. That way you just clip on and your up and hunting in seconds. You cannot rig a climber as fast, but some climbers are more comfortable for long sits.

For comfort and longevity, GameTamers, but I'm biased.

A pecan tree is not gonna allow a climber.

Gametamer will be the most comfortable stand you can hunt.

If you are not familar with tree stands, then you could get a ladder stand. There are several different companies making them these days.

berandel i have a question. why no clibmer for a pecan tree?? just wondering. i prefer climbers for the versatility, but if it is your place, a fixed stand like a gametamer would probably be best. Also climbing sticks to make it easier than screw in steps to get in and out. like ranchdog said, never leave the ground without having a safety harness on and attached to a fall arrest system!!!!!

The tree I'm planning on using is rather large and after looking at a few of the climbers at Gander Mtn. the other day,I don't think they'd work.I am also considering an oak in the same area but I'd have to trim some limbs. There are several oaks back in there that are so big a man could build a house in them. Thanks for everyone's input,I appreciate it.

bowhuntntxn, only because most pecan tree start branching pretty low to the ground, and they have multiple branches that would be problematical for a climbing stand. Don't they do better on straight trees without branches to contend with?
