Cutting Arrow, Want to save beman vibrake inserts

I need to take 4 inches off some arrows i am going to buy. the inserts are already glued in. is it possible to cut these arrows and put the inserts back in?

Yes you can, no problem, you will need to more than likely buy new inserts depending on how they were installed but no problem other than that.

Heat the insert and pull em out with a pair of pliers.

Be careful heating the inserts, too much heat can destroy the arrow. There is a fine line between just enough and too much. Take it slow and you will be fine. Or you can always refletch and cut the arrows from the nock end.

I remove inserts with much success by inserting and heating a field tip with a gas flame. Trial and error on how long to heat it, but once hot you can grab the field tip with pliers and pull the insert out. Once it cools, the old glue can be cleaned off with a fingernail. Cut arrows, reglue and install inserts. Have done it many times. Go slow like stated above. Too much heat can weaken the shaft. Not enough can result in some of the shaft pulling out (coming unraveled) from the inside.

That is how I do my arrows. I then put a wrap on it and it covers the decal from beman and makes the arrow look better to me.

You can cut from the nock end and refletch or if you don't want to go that route you can measure about 1 3/4" from the insert and cut that end off which should leave just a little of the vibrake exposed. Pull the vibrake off of the insert and then use what ever method you want to remove the insert from the scrap end of the shaft.

In your situation cut another 2 1/4" off of the shafts and reglue the inserts.

I bought some of the bemans with vibrakes but I was not sure if it was just a gimmick or what.

For regular inserts you can find a drill bit that fits just inside the shaft. Remove the nock and insert the drill bit with the arrow perpendicular to the ground. Now very quickly whip the arrow down so that the drill bit goes down to the insert. Couple of rounds of this and the insert will come flying out, better not be aiming at nothing breakable either

Sometimes you can take the nock out, slip a drill bit just the right size inside the shaft and "whip" the drill bit into the nock and that might knock it out. I haven't tried it with the vibrake insert.
