    Why do they do that?

When somebody is selling something, they describe it and then they tell everyone what they paid for it then state what they are selling it for. What difference does it make to a buyer to know what the seller paid for it?

(I was over on another discussion forum, so I'm not talking about anyone here.)

I guess their trying to justify to themselves that its worth X number of dollars, who knows.

Maybe to let everyone know what actual retail is? idk, I always thought it was weird bcs most people looking in the classifieds already know what actual retail is.

If you know what something was worth brand new, it may help give you a little better idea of it's depreciated value.

Why not? Seems like a simple marketing tool for selling just about anything.

I agree with you Dusty Britches. If I want something real bad I research it and find out the cheapest price I can pay for it anyway. I see the point of it being a marketing tool but who wants to take advantage of someone on this wonderful site???

I guess to help save some research time but also it helps the seller look better when his price matches your research price.

Doesen't bother me to know what somebody else paid. Just makes for more information about the item.

I have listed a few things and have had people ask me what they normally run. I see nothing wrong with it, and I would like to know what something retails for before I buy it off an individual.

Sometimes people want to offer 50% of what an item is listed for in a classified ad. This way the potential buyer has a clue about it's already discounted status. The easiest thing is to mention whether the pricing is firm or negotiable.

So the buyer can see what kinda deal there getting.

I see nothing wrong with this at all. Basically, you are justifying your asking price.

I have over $1000 in this setup and I'm asking $700. I see nothing wrong with that???
