Is it good to plant food plots around your feeders?

I was considering planting a plot about 100x100 or so around my feeder in the feeder pen and part of the way out is this a good idea will it help bring deer to me?

I have a couple of feeders on the edge of 10-12 acre oat fields, it does make sneaking in to the in the morning a little difficult. We just drive up with headlights on, chasing everything out of the field, they always come back

I think it's a great idea. If you're ever thrown corn where you have oak trees dropping acorns you know how frustrating it can be when no deer show up to eat your corn. A food plot gives them variety, and if you choose the right plants and have rainfall to make them grow, you could have deer showing up when the corn feeders aren't doing the trick.

The hogs cleared my food plot in a matter of days, too small (4 acre plot).

We've planted plots inside our feed pens and had great success.

done it and its not worth it at all if you got a hand full of deer coming in.....they will have it eaten within days plus its so small it wont have a chance to get to any size....they will eat it as soon as its sprouts up.....you need big plots 4 or 5 plus acres big, the bigger the better

Buy a roll of field fence and put it together. 330 feet long makes a large pen and you can get some use out of it. If nothing else mow the grass and weeds real low, spray and kill what's left then just broad cast annual rye grass seed. The heavier the coverage the better. If you get rain the first or second week of Sept is about right. This has worked for us.

Here is some of my information on the food plots we plant. In the fall we plants around several of our feeders. Our hogs don't seem to mess with the oats. I say it can't hurt. That way if your feeder runs out of corn the deer keep coming until you can get some corn in the feeder.

We plant a lot of plots and only 2 don't have a feeder in/near them. I always like to plant one off by itself that is not hunted to give them a safe place to eat, it's by one of the protein feeders.
