Is there any merit to the theory that right handers with a left eye dominant should shoot with a left handed bow, I ve read this recently, been out of bowhunting for awhile, getting back into it. shopping for bows for me and my boy, just dont know if this is bunk or serious.

My oldest son is right hand and left eye dominant and shot right hand until he was around 12. i took him in to an archery shop and they checked him for which eye is dominant and insisted he start shooting a left hand bow. He was upset to start with, but once he tried it he has never looked back. He's 29 and shoots bow and gun left had still. Eye dominance is very important in my humble opinion

I am right handed but left eyed dominant, I use Duck Tape to cover the left one. Aaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!Seriously, I am Right & Right. & to answer your ?'s, I know some folks that are right handed but left eyed dominant or the other way around. I would suggest to get a bow with the same hand you use to write with, you can always cover or close your the dominant eye. Glad to know you are getting back into Bow shooing, best of luck to you.

I had my daughter shooting rt handed when she first started and she is lft eye dom. She was 5 and we saw an immediate difference when we switched her and so did she.
I will say this, if you shoot with one eye closed to comensate you won't be able to open your closed eye, find the arrow and track the flight. At best you will see it when it hits the target. I shoot rt handed and am rt eye, I shoot both eyes open and can track the arrow all the way down on a 20 yd target.
If you're left eye dom do yourself a favor and shoot left handed.

I'm right handed left eye dominant. With a compound bow or rifle I just close my left eye when aiming, no issue at all. I'm too uncoordinated to consider relearning how to shoot "backwards"
With a recurve (instinctive) or a shotgun it's a different story. With my recurve I got some archery lessons and was taught 'gap' shooting, plus to shoot 3 fingers under the nock, AND I anchor my top finger in the corner of my nose above my lip which puts the arrow directly under my right eye and then I close my left when shooting and I'm sighting straight down the arrow (left-right aiming) and using the gap technique (up-down).
With my shotguns, I have shooting glasses with milky colored Scotch tape on the left lens blocking only the area where the front bead is on the shotgun when my cheek is on the stock, which makes my right eye the dominant eye. If I don't wear them, I can stone birds flying right to left with both eyes open since the left eye dominant 'adds' a big lead to where I think I'm aiming at the duck. Right to left shots I need to remember to close my left eye, or I'm wasting ammo.
