    whih would you choose

I had some gold tips 5575 that were 372 grain and chrono'd at 310fps and bought some beaman 340 that are 420 grain and they are ranging 280-285fps. both of these are with 100 grain tips. is there a benefit to one of the other? what would yall shoot. I am shooting a Hoyt Vulcan 70# with 29 draw.
How much to the maxima hunters weigh?

    I would shoot the 420 gr arrows @ 280-285....

      Running the numbers
      372 gr arrow at 310 fps = 79.37 KE
      420 gr arrow at 280 fps = 73.10 KE

I thought a heavier arrow would have more kinetic energy

The heavier arrow has more momentum but faster arrow will have more KE. Its just two different formulas and nobody really knows which one is better for penetration with an arrow. but...............the heavy arrow will be quieter and that is still pretty fast so I think I would shoot it. Unless you really cant tell a difference in noise then the faster one would be my pick.

          Both will work.

X2......... the only thing I need to go fast is my truck and my Harley... I would rather have more thump than speed in my bow.

Both would work but I woiuld go with the most accurate and consistent of the two. Just my .02

                  This can't be right.
on average, you lose 10 fps per 30 grains,so the 420 grain arrow should be shooting 293 app. increasing k.e. to 80 lbs.
It is rare that a heavier arrow out of the same bow slows down enough to lose K.E.

I'll take the speed anytime over weight.

I did hit 290 once and 288 a few times with the heavier arrows but shot low 280's several times.

Sounds as if you might have a lighting problem with chrono.
This much variation is uncommon unless creep is involved.

So you would rather be hit by a bowling ball moving at 150 fps over a feather traveling 400fps?
It's the balance of the two that matters and for down range momentum matters.

You might want it check the spine on the 5575, it sounds a little light to me
I like GT arrows better than beaman
