    State Park Question

Ok, spring is right around the corner and then summer right after that. I want to take the family camping, they've never been i've been while growing up and plenty of it in my marine corps days.

What would you suggest be a great park to take the family to camp, sight see, fish and take pictures of? We do not have a boat unfortunately but want to get as much outdoors in my family. We have our ranch in north texas but i want them to visit state parks.

Lets here the suggestions, thanks for them in advance.

        2 places

I love Huntsville state park. Lake raven to be exact. Very close to spring and close to a town of huntsville. I would go somewhere close to home for that just in case moment. (on your first campout with the family)

Lake livinston has a real nice place but its better if you have a camper.

If you want something fun when it warms up try Yogi Bear Park in Waller. They have cabins and camp spaces. If you have a golf cart you can drive it around. Bif pool for the kids and a small lake.

Pedernales Falls State park is really nice park. Lots of photo ops, tons of hiking trails, a great swimming/fishing hole......heck if you decide to go here, I have access downriver from the park for some decent fishing......

My all time fave is the Buffalo National River in northern Arkansas.

Texas Parks and Wildlife has a show that comes on several times a week that will showcase a different state park each week..........

My favorite is Eisenhower SP on Lake Texoma. I've made an annual trip there since I was two years old, and I did my Eagle Scout project there. It's a beautiful lake with tall, steep cliffs, a swimming beach, several fishing piers, tons of deer, coyotes and other wildlife, good boat access, and great campsites.

My second favorite is Lake Bob Sandlin, followed closely by Huntsville, Fairfield, Possum Kingdom and Cooper.

If you choose Eisenhower, I'll let you know which campsites are the quietest, have the best view, closest to the fishing piers, best places to watch deer, etc.

Caprock Canyons at Quitaque is beautiful. Has some nice campgrounds, miles of hiking (and bike and horseback) trails, a new visitor center, and the fishing in Lake Theo is great. Theo is a very small lake - more like a really large farm pond. It has a boat ramp, and you can put a boat on it, but a float tube is all you need. Or just fish off the bank.

Huntsville, Lockhart, Palmetto and Stephen F Austin are our favoritestate parks close to home. For more than a weekend stay, say 4 or 5 days, we like to go to South Llano and Garner.

I have been to Inks Lake State Park every summer (sometimes twice) since I was 2 years old (I'm 20). It's a great family place to be and I will continue to go back year after year when I have a family of my own. I highly recommend this to you and your family. It's near Marble Falls between Lake Buchanon and Lake LBJ and in a beautiful area. Great hiking trails, great swimming areas (an awesome water hole to swim and jump of the rocks), waterfalls, canoeing, fishing is great, a park store, and 3 piers! They have very nice cabins with bunkbeds, tent areas and RV hookups as well. I will be glad to send you some awesome pictures but all you have to do is do a google image search to see what I am talking about!!! Good Luck!
