business purchase and tax id question

I am in the process of purchasing a business. I have a couple of questions. WHen you purchase the business, how do you go about changing the ownership of the business (tax id #) with the state to show that you are the owner. 2nnd question. Can you change the name on the tax id and keep the same # or do you have to file for a new tax id number with the new name. Thanks for any help.

We just incorporated our business. You need to talk to your accoutant. You don't want to be liable for their taxes so you should get your own number I would think. Goodluck

You need to get an attorney involved. I purchased a company three years ago and had owned another company prior to that. Needless to say there are some important decisions that need to be made correctly.
