I used a gallon of 40 peroxide to do a skull and left the same solution in the box for the second skull I am working on. It doesn't seem to be whitening the second skull as good as the first one. Does the peroxide lose its whitening properties after it has been used once or allowed air to hit it for a few days? Might have to buy another gallon for this second skull!

they have it already in paste form.I think I bought mine at Sally's Beauty supply. How long did you leave it sitting in the mixture? I just brush mine on and a gallon should go aways,I have done 3-4 skulls and still have 3/4 gallon, but I do double boil mine for grease. And I think the amount of time skin is left on could affect the fluids setting into the bone,I could be wrong there.

I am using the 20 clear right now and it is doing a good job so far. The guys that walked me through it get the 50 and cut it by 50% so the 20 was close enough. I figured at $7.99 a gallon for the 20 it was similar to buying one of the 50s at $20 and splitting it.
I am keeping it in a closed garage in the clear shoe boxes.
Guys tell me more about this white powder? and why it needs to be added??

Smart,
Sally beauty supply has two types of the peroxide. One is the clear liquid like you are talking about and the other is a cream style. They also sell a product called basic white, which is a powder If you get the cream style of peroxide, you can mix it with the basic white and form a paste.
The way I do all of my skulls is to make the paste and paint it on the skull with a paint brush. Then wrap the skull in saran wrap and place it in front of a heater for about 1 hour. Then wash the skull off and place back in front of the heater for another hour.
A lot of people just put the paste or peroxide on the skull and let it dry, however the peroxide and basic white are designed to be heated up to make them work. Also, you will want to use gloves using this method as the heated paste will turn your hands white.
One more thing, this is done after the skull is degreased.
This is a good thread that shows doing it with the paste. Just don't pay attention to all the BS on that site.Last edited by TxTechBowhunter; 01-14-2010, 06:37 PM.

Thanks for the info TTB....Is there anything special we have to do to the clear? Or is it just standard peroxide?...
The guys I learned from got their peroxide at a chemical store but I don't have access to that and I bought the clear at Sally's beauty supply thinking it was similar. The ladies at Sallys, looked at me like I was a heathen when I told them what it was for....lol
And I did go through a degreasing process per some other TBHer's recommendation....Last edited by Smart; 01-14-2010, 06:41 PM.

I did not dilute the 20........Actually that was the strongest they had the clear in this small store.
They wanted a cosmetology license to buy the 50...I figured I'd hit Brezina up for his next time I am in Corpus....lol.

I bought the 40 cream by accident and realized it when I started pouring it in the clear plastic shoe box. I thought I had the liquid. So I just soaked my skull in the cream, and what wasn't covered, I took a paint brush to the rest of the skull and it came out great after 36 hours. This second skull is a different story. I have degreased good I believe. Will buy more peroxide tomorrow and try again. I have seen that method with the saran wrap on a website but have always wondered how you get a consistent bleaching. It seems the paste would be thicker on some parts of the skull and not enough on other parts creating a blotchy appearance.
