    Locksmith Question

Last night I locked my wifes keys in her truck and called a locksmith from church to come unlock it. He had a device called an Airjack and put it beteen the doorjam and with a couple of squeezes the door seperated enough to put another neat little device down over the lock and unlock the truck. Looked similar to a snake cather. Took a total of about a minute.

It seems that I have a habit of locking my keys in my truck. I lost my spare and to get one made would cost about $250. So much for just having a key made. So can a person buy one of these kits or do you have to be a licesned locksmith?

Can you get a new key that will only open the trunk or doors (not programmed to start the car, so cheap) and put it in a magnetic holder somewhere underneath?

What type of truck do you have? I can get into a dodge truck in about 30seconds. I have had alot of practice cause when i was in college, i would go to work and leave my keys in my truck and on habit, i would lock my doors! I would do it like 3 times a week, maybe!

You might be able to buy one from Galls, but I don't know. We use them at the Fire Department for the same thing and they are great.

              2008 dodge.

I need to check to see if I just get a key made that will unlock the door. Would still like to get one of these kits though. Seems like I know somebody is always locking themselves out. Found some online for around $85.00 but they want you to give a company name. Going to ask my brother if he can order me one since he is in law enforcement.

Electrical tape always worked for me. It's like carrying an umbrella anticipating rain and you get dry weather. After I put the spare up under the car I don't remember ever locking the keys in the car.
By the way where would the Airjack be secured?

Carrying around tools to unlock car doors sure seems like a way to have to explain yourself if pulled over by LE for something or other unrelated. "Well sir, let me explain. I occasionally lock my keys in the car and wanted to be prepared" could raise an eyebrow, don't you think?

I Texas there is a law that deals with possession of "burglary tools". It's gerenally only used when the officer has evidence that the person is a burglar, since anything from a crow bar to a sledge to a simple screwdriver can be a burglary tool. That said, something like this that is expressly designed to open locked car doors, would almost certainly be an easy mark for a cop as a burglary tool.

Be easier and cheaper to put a extra key in the toolbox, and tape one under the wifes car.

Just call me if you lock your keys in your car again. If my cousin is not in jail at the time, I can get him to open it for $20
