    Need Help On Pistol Choice

I have narrowed it down to 2 pistols. Love to hear from owners

    Springfield XD 45

Pros- Magazine (13+1) and carried uncocked (not on person) Size (recoil)
    Cons- Size

    and

    Kimber Ultra Carry

    Pros- Size, its a Kimber
Cons- Size (recoil), must carry cocked or cock before firing, magazine (7+1)

    what say you?

I can't say anything. Apparently nobody likes Berettas.

      I have both.

The Springfield XD is my bedside gun and the Kimber is my winter carry gun.

What are you going to use the handgun for? The XD is a great gun but would suck to carry and conceal it on a regular basis.

With those two as an option, go with the xD. Easier to use, nothing to remember to flip on or off, nothing to cock... simply point and pull the trigger. Once you are finished, remove your finger from the trigger. No levers/safeties to forget, no worries if you forgot to do so or uncock the pistol.

Simplicity unless you plan on shooting/practicing a lot so that the other tasks become complete muscle memory with the 1911 platform. If not and you really need the weapon and under stress, you are going to forget to take the safety off or put it back on when you are finished or you will forget that you didn't cock it, etc.

Depends on what you want it for like it already said.

I hip-holster my XD45 compact in a Blackhawk serpa paddle holster on my hip as a backup gun when hunting and it's comfortable and dependable. Pull, squeeze and shoot. Putting night sites on the XD is cheaper shipping the slide to SA custom shop and having them provide and install them than buying them yourself. Beware, the front and rear sights on the XD are notorious for not wanting to move/ adjust/ or come out.

I carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II cocked and locked. It is an very reliable weapon if you keep it clean. I would suggest you shot both and then decide. Some don't like the idea of having the hammer back on a 1911 but that is the way it was designed to be carried. It will not go off unless you flip the safety down, depress the grip safety & pull the trigger. In a proper holster that is not going to happen. The recoil is not bad and it is slim enough to wear IWB if you want. I love mine!!

tvc this is one case where I gotta disagree with you. If you are going to carry a gun, you need to train with it so it is second nature.

The 2 guns listed are in 2 different leagues of gun, especially in quality and ease/comfort to carry. Kimber wins hands down IMO.

To the OP, have you carried a gun with 14 rounds of 45ACP in it? I have and it's no fun.

                  what holster do you suggest?

I just bought the pro carry compact II (four inch barrel with laser grips)

thanks in advance... hopefully this is not a thread hijack... my amature answer is the kimber

I currently carry a pocket pistol (Keltec .380). It only weighs 7oz and kicks like a **** mule. I do not really like the idea of my life depending on a .380 auto.

XD purchase was the mind set that the .380 will get me back to the truck where the .45 is. I know it is heavy and uncarryable concealed.

Kimber was with the mind set to just carry what will do the job!.

I understand that the pistols are fundementally like apples and oranges. I am looking mainly for quirks that the pistols have that you did not find out until later.

Man, your talking about two different styles of handguns. Kind of hard to compare the two side by side.

Well, I'll tell you this about my XD45 that I used to have. As long as you keep it clean, and I mean too clean for a carry weapon, it will fail on you. After mine did the second time, I got rid of it and replaced it with a Glock 21SF.

My Glock pistols had been subjected to the EXACT same conditions and they never missed a beat.

After changing the recoil spring assembly in my Ultra Carry it has been flawless for 3 years and at least 1500 shots.

I carry a Kel-Tec too as a back up to my Kimber but they are both on me at all times. If I am concerned about fighting my way back to my truck to get another gun it's going to be a rifle or a shotgun, not another pistol. Cause if I need more than what I have on me I am in DEEP ****!

                          Legdog - I use this now http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.as...3568&GunID=175

I don't personally like Inside The Waist Band. But sometimes it might be what is needed. For that I use this http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG3.as...2437&GunID=175

I use the first one about 95% of the time. It is a great holster.

My answer is the Comp-Tac MTAC. I wear my Kimber in mine 12-14 hours a day. 2nd most important thing to get along with it is a good, sturdy gun belt designed for concealed carry. I have a Tucker bull hide belt with velcro sewn on the inside. My MTAC has the velcro clips on it and are totally hidden by the belt.

I have had my xd .45 for 4 years and it has never failed. It has been dirty as i carry it at the lease, and has yet to not fire. It shoots great and is an all around great gun for me. No complaints on it here.
