    My laptop quit working...

On my wifes puter right now but...
Worked great yesterday but as I hit the on button LEDs light up then go off, then off, then on, then off all together.
    ***???
Wonder if it might be a battery issue? Yesterday I noticed the battery level was low and "thought" it had been plugged in for awhile but didn't think much about it.
Hopefully I don't have to go buy a new badarse laptop...

Sounds like a battery. I had one that would come on and go right off, come on go right off. New battery fixed it. Bad batteries will do strange things!!

I had the same problem recently even when it was plugged in. Bought a new power cord for the HP laptop and it's working fine. Downside. The power cord was $90.00.

$90 is still better than a new laptop...
But, I don't think it's the cord. The LED where the power cable plugs in is on and the LED on the front of the laptop showing power cale is on. ???
        Maybe battery...

I bet it's a battery issue. A laptop gets it power from the battery, not from the power cable. The power cable will only charge the battery for the laptop to run off of it. If the battery is old or damaged it will not allow the power to flow thru it to power the laptop. I had this same issue a few years ago with my dell work laptop.

Whether this will work or not depends on the model of laptop. Take the battery out and try running if off the power supply. If it runs properly off the power supply, it's the battery. If it doesn't it's either a laptop problem or you have a model that won't run off the the power supply without a battery, and your back to square one. Older laptops with NiCad batteries have battery issues after awhile. The newer LiIon's not so much.

Mine does that from time to time. I can tell that the "cooling" fan is off when the laptop cycles on then off.

I'll try w/o batt. It is a LiIon but it's 2.5 years old. In PC times, it's ancient...

The laptop has been off since yesterday so it is no where near warm much less hot.

I ordered a new batt and power supply for $50 so we'll see.

WCB, I had a laptop that used to do the same thing. The issue was the connection to plug the cord into the laptop to charge had gotten loose and would not make a good connection to charge the battery. Hope this helps.

Try pulling the battery out and seeing if it will power on with just the power cable. If your does it means it is a battey issue, if not, it could be the power supply (distrubing power inside the laptop) or it could be that your laptop is not designed to run with the battery out.

The charger is putting out it's rated 18.5VDC and the LEDs do the same with or w/o battery.
LEDs light up then go off then back on. Then off all together... Nothing every shows up on moniter.
