This season has held the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows for me, I haven't been able to hunt much at all this season due to college and football....I had a bi-week halloween weekend and had a chance to go kill some pork out at Brady. Shot a very good boar with the good 'ol Bowtech. Moving into November, I was absolutely too busy to hunt any of the deer I had scouted on public land during the summer
....
I shot a very decent 8 point during the first couple of weeks during december with my bow behind the house, it ended up being a 5 minute hunt and I felt very gracious that I was able to catch a break and not have to work too hard for one
. Fast forward a couple of weeks, I had a very large buck located in the National Forest and was hunting him very hard.... On the evening of December 28th, He came through the creek bottom I was hunting, and I shot at him twice, watching him trot off following the doe like nothing had happened. I felt like I had hit rock bottom of my hunting career, having a 170 class buck come through at less than 100 yards, missing him with a deer rifle
. Come to find out my Weatherby was off by over a foot! I finally came to realize that I would just have to hope for the best and started hunting this week with the smoke pole. I had an abundance of does located at almost all of my spots and took out the knight .50 this afternoon. The good Lord was looking down upon me this evening because as soon as I walked down into my area to hunt, I walked up on 6 does at less than 50 yards. I picked out the best looking mature doe and let the Knight smoke.... The doe ran less than 40 yards and expired. I finished out the '09/10 season on top again.
