    nubbing bucks

i have been really bothered this year by some weired activity ....but now i am ready to reduce the doe population and what do i see but two sets of a doe with a doe and nubbing buck fawn... (they were seen at the same time).. i was always under the impresion that a doe will run off a fawn buck when the rut kicks in... so does that mean that she hasent weined (why dont we have a spell checker on here) them yet or what...
    any inmput would be welcome

The does will kick off their 18 month old bucks pre rut. The 6 month old nubbings will stay with her in a lot of instances.
Be carefull shooting any doe that is by it self this time of year. A lot of times it is a nubbin looking for it's place in the herd.

I believe they run them off before 18 months...sometime in the spring, before their new fawn is born so that they won't be competing for momma.

I shot a nubbin buck a month ago thinking it was a doe. I watched it for an hour before the shot. When I walked up to it I felt its head and sure enough. They haden't broken the skin yet. This was on public land.

Binoculars. That way you can look it over before taking the shot.

Are you worried about taking a doe with a fawn? They are plenty old enough to make it on their own. Also, by taking that doe before she runs off that buck fawn, it will stay on your place. They are imprinted on that home range and will stay after she is gone.
