If you shoot them when they are GOOD.........

    THEY WILL NEVER BE GREAT!

I was looking at some old pic files and found a group of trail camera pictures from 2 yrs ago of the place I killed my buck this season. This year, my buck had 12 scorable points and one kicker that had broken off at its base. He scored 178 and his age was estimated at 6.5 yrs old.
The trail cam pic is from season before last, so he would have been 4.5 and guessing, I would say a mid 130s 9 point. Two years ago, he would have been a TOUGH buck for a lot of people to pass up. This shows how big a difference AGE makes. There is no protein feeders or feed program or anything, and this year supposedly was not a good year for antler growth in the hillcountry.

Great photo comparison, you don't have one as a 5.5?

I didnt hunt there in '08

This also may be a learning tool for some places that go ahead and kill a buck because he is a 9 and not a 10. This buck CLEARLY was a slick 9 two years ago.

That is a great deer. Not to be a nay sayer, but what identifying factors were used to determine that is the same deer? There is such a dramatic change in antler configuration that it makes me think it could be a different one. Either way, like I said that is an awesome animal, and I am asking for knowledge and not to be a jerk.

Not doubting you, but what characteristics makes you sure that those are the same deer?

His left brow is a DEAD give away. His full body pics too are clear it is the same buck.

The brows look very similar on both. Very well could be the same buck. If so, he made a heck of a jump.

Here is another.....It is pretty clear to me at least, this IS the same buck. If I had photoshop at work, I could overlay and make the angles better, but unless he had an almost identicle twin, I have to believe this is the same deer.

thanks for pointing that out for me. looks like the base of the right G2 could also be used to identify him. great animal for sure

The right main beam comes around almost the same in both pics as well.
