    Mertz 09

I know there are several people here that hunt the 09 and was wondering how there season ended. I hunt the south end of the ranch (south and southeast house patures) and we had a very slow season. What should have been a stellar year turned out to be probably the worst.

I agree 100%; just wanted to know if other 09 hunters experienced the same results as I did.

I hunt the West Carson pasture of the Mertz 09, or did. This will be my last year out there. I killed a decent ten point and a management 8 both on the same day, the day after thanksgiving. But the quality of deer, and to be honest the quantity of deer, have gone downhill considerably since my first year out there three years ago. We have caught people trespassing, had cameras and feeders messed with, and a lock cut off of a stand all this year and the lease manager refused to do anything about it so we will be looking elsewhere. I would probably give it the benefit of the doubt if we even had pictures of more deer than we're seeing, but we don't. It's almost like they just disappeared, more than likely they just left the property due to all the traffic that's been going in and out, we have tire tracks all over the pasture that don't belong to us. It's just gotten to the point to where it's not worth hunting there anymore.

We had the trespasser problem on the ranch just west of the Mertz 09 last year. Our east fence was the west fence of the 09.

The amount of oilfield traffic on both ranches is CRAZY!!!!!!! They traveled through our ranch to get to the rigs on the west side of the 09.

We had several wounded bucks that were way younger than our management plan would have allowed being shot at. Figured some of the traffic or poached were shooting at them.

Eldorado.. we hunt there as well.. super super slow. i don't know how to explain to you where we hunt.. Red is the fella that takes care of th cattle. We have 2500 acres, we go past Matthew Machoney's (sp?) place and follow his high fence all the way till it ends, we then turn right about another two miles from that... hope that helps.. we have hunted this pasture for 11 years.

I have been hunting there 9 yrs and I am very good freinds with Red and his wife Bo. I can't recall the name of your pasture but I beleive you are in the northwest corner of the ranch. We have a big field that borders our fence line as well as the west Mccormick and north house pastures and 2 other fields close by that used to be planted in wheat and the last couple of years they were planted in hay; I am convinced that this is the reason why the numbers and quality of deer have declined.

Go between house and barn and follow the fence to the right to the gate at the back of the field.

Do any of you guys hunt on the O9 near the Conoco University Compresor Station?

It is on the very north end of the ranch. I caliche county road dead-ends at this point. You have to drive around McCauneghies place to get to it.
