Well the last 2 days I have seen the 1st signs of a rut. Bucks are chasing doe and single. What has be confused is that I am seeing babies that look like they have just lost their spots, just because of their body size. Is it possible this could be the 1st rut, being this late in the year ?

Two years ago I was watching a very small doe feeding on the last day of the season with maybe less than 10 minutes of shooting light. A yearling 8 point buck that might have been 8-9 inches wide came out of nowhere to chase her around for only a minute then she stopped and he mounted her. He proceded to mount her at least 6-7 more times before it got to dark to see any longer. I guess it can happen long after the season is over as long a doe comes in heat. I heard that the more mature bucks don`t participate as much in the secondary rut.

I saw secondary rut activity this weekend in San Saba County. 2 different bucks- 1 checking feeders for does just like Thanksgiving weekend, and 1 running a doe with swollen neck, black hocks, and nose on the ground like a bird dog.
I have NEVER seen anything like that at this time of year. It has been a crazy and different hunting season on our place.
