    Is it Possible ?

Well the last 2 days I have seen the 1st signs of a rut. Bucks are chasing doe and single. What has be confused is that I am seeing babies that look like they have just lost their spots, just because of their body size. Is it possible this could be the 1st rut, being this late in the year ?

Doubtful it is more likely a doe that wasnt bred or an early drop doe fawn that is cycling.

My guess is it's a secondary rut, any does not bred are cycling again.

Two years ago I was watching a very small doe feeding on the last day of the season with maybe less than 10 minutes of shooting light. A yearling 8 point buck that might have been 8-9 inches wide came out of nowhere to chase her around for only a minute then she stopped and he mounted her. He proceded to mount her at least 6-7 more times before it got to dark to see any longer. I guess it can happen long after the season is over as long a doe comes in heat. I heard that the more mature bucks don`t participate as much in the secondary rut.

What gets me being only a few minutes from my lease and hunting at least 3-4 days a week I never saw any rut until yesterday. No rubs or scrapes eithier and bucks together. Just seems odd.

I have seen some bucks still chasing but also shot a doe today that had twins in her so the rut happened already just not very noticable. I have also seen some small fawns, one was about 18" high and had no spots.

Well I guess I missed it. I saw some 18" deer also.

I watched buck fight, make rubs, scrapes and chase does all weekend... Young bucks have been chasing since Thanksgiving but this weekend the mature bucks were chasing too.

I noticed the same thing this year kinda. Actually found a ton of rubs but never located a single scrape this entire year. I don't know what the deal was...normally I can find anywhere from 5-10 every year. I had bucks chasing the second week of bowseason this year and saw some this week chasing again.

I saw secondary rut activity this weekend in San Saba County. 2 different bucks- 1 checking feeders for does just like Thanksgiving weekend, and 1 running a doe with swollen neck, black hocks, and nose on the ground like a bird dog.

I have NEVER seen anything like that at this time of year. It has been a crazy and different hunting season on our place.

I was surprised last week to find 3 fresh scrapes and to hear some guys that hunt where I do, say the were seeing some bucks chasing does. Second time around I guess. But I usually don't see fresh scrapes this time of year.
