Could have been! ha ha! Don't know but he had been eaten on within 45 minutes. The deer ran about 175 yds.

This is where I was basing my info I post from.
You have hunt in Brown and Donley. So I guess I was confused.
I had a guy I know put a javi out for bait last year, he came back to camp and got a couple bottles of water and went right back out and it was gone. A pack of coyotes will destroy an animal pretty darn quick.
This is where I based info. I try not to asume things so I didn't. I guess I should have.

I do believe it though because coyotes can get to a calf within minutes of dropping if they smell the blood, not a whole lot to argue about though.

You are a member of archers for Christ, why are you arguing with folks about an animal that most ranchers would like to be totally off their ranches in Texas and Mexico? Guess I'm confused.

There are lot of stuff people would like to get rid of, does that mean they should break the law to do it? Besides who was arguing with. I stated that I thought KR must have been kidding because a public figure surely wouldn't condone breaking the law and I truly had no idea where you were hunting until you came back with
Pretty sure mexican officials dont care.
seems to me like you were looking for the argument. So maybe we are both confused.

That explains everything to me. The angle on the shot looked bad. And the shot was too far back. Awesome tracking job if you waited 30 minutes after the shot and tracked the deer in 15 minutes in that country. Who needs a blood dog?

Good luck with with the show.

I have witnessed with my own eyes a coyote eating a spike that had been shot within the prior thirty minutes. This happened on my lease in Burnet. Guy on my lease shoots the spike and watches him run about 50 yards and saw his path the deer took before collapsing. So he text me and ask if I want to put my dog on the trail to see how she does(practice). So he and I drive over to the stand in my truck when I noticed a coyote standing with head up looking at us. Then all of a sudden he puts his head back down. We could not tell what it was doing but it happened to be eating the spike my buddy shot 30 minutes earlier.

I stopped the truck and grabbed my rifle and put the coyote down. In fact when we walked up to the him his teeth we still sunk into the deer hindquarters. I could not believe the coyote had not only gotten there so fast but had done so much damage. He had the half of the two hindquarters eaten in no time.

I guess I said that wrong. I didn't say it was ok for him to break the law, just not that big of a deal that he used a stinking Javelina to hunt coyotes over. I certainly care about people following game laws and surely wouldn't encourage anyone to break one. I guess I was trying to respond to the point of "I hope you called the game warden and turned him in". I bet most of the Javelinas shot are simply thrown out into the brush for the coyotes anyway, is there a law against that. Luckily for us in Mexico we can send most of them to town to be eaten by the locals (I know most of us won't eat them) but still place gut piles and carcuses near by to hunt coyotes. Please don't try to turn something that I say into more than it is, Thanks.

If that is what it seems like sorry about that.

This clears it up for me anyway.

I'm pretty sure there are laws against killing animals and wasting the resource.

Wow, are there that many bored people on the GS?.....just amazes me on how this thread has gotten turned around. If he said it was only 45 minutes, why would you doubt him? He was there, not anyone else here. So after all that, then it had to be a bad shot??? Seriously? Do you email Uncle Ted every time he shoots a deer a little back? Unreal!

I could be mistaken. Didn't pigman say it happened in 30 minutes. Bad angle. Bad shot. The deer ran 175 yards. Looks like the deer had been laying there for quite a while. Amazing as to how much a mangy 25 pound mexican coyote can eat in a few minutes.
