Pardon my ignorance but diesel as in fuel? Okay to eat the pork after they've been eating it? Never heard of using it until recently. When I was a kid many years ago, we use to raise hogs and feed them sour corn. I know our hogs loved the stuff and it reeks something fierce!

I run straight corn in my feeder unless my buddy that owns a wholesale farm supply business has busted bags or weevil-infested bags of the roasted soybean/corn combo that he's trying to give away.

But, sometimes even straight corn won't pull them in. The last two times I sat my pig stand nothing showed, and the last time, there was about 5 gallons of corn in a pile under the feeder, so it had been at least 4-6 days since their last visit. I attribute their absence to the Christmas holidays--lots of folks hunting, banging at every hog that shows at a feeder, so they are holed up anywhere but around a feeder.

Hogs will eat anything!!! I would suggest souring corn and using that exclusively.Diesel will attract hogs, but it wont deter deer.I had 110 gallons of diesel corn totally consumed by deer, that was meant for hogs, last year.I have the pics to prove it!!! Do not use diesel on your corn!!!Sour it. It takes a bit longer this time of year, but just do it.Put jello or what ever in it,just dont put anything in it that you wouldnt eat yourself, unless of course, your baiting them just to trap em'and kill em'.Then, who gives a rats *** what your feeding em'.

Here I was goofing on all the wild stuff folks use but I do have an idea. The only reason I am thinking this is because I have tried it and it works but it is a luxury that is easily available where I hunt. If you know of any potato farmers near where you hunt you may want to contact them regarding rotten taters. The farmer where I hunt grows potatoes. They usually have sever thousand pounds of ones that rot in the bend before the can sell them or they are not up to par for what the stores want to buy. If you can some across somehting like this where youcan get a couple thousand pounds for next to nothing it will create a food source and smell that will last for quite a long time. It brought the hogs in I am hunting now but they just slop around in them while picking out the corn.

Corn is great! The sour corn is just smelly and tends to draw them better from distance to a trapping area. The diesel on the corn tends to keep raccoons etc off the corn. You can add all sorts of stuff but corn seems to be the best for us. Sour corn in a new area seems to do better. Any grease or oil from a deep fat fryer (catfish house, chicken house, etc) works great as well. I know a few guys that swear by bacon grease. Now that may sound crazy but they sure catch their fair share.
Scout your trap area real good and find where they want to be, if you have access to the ground. It is way easier to go to where they want to be and set-up rather than try to draw them out to where we want them. I am sure you know that but I sometimes forget that simple fact too. They can be drawn just about anywhere but it is usually more difficult. Good luck with your trapping. Trapping has been a fun and rewarding addition to our seasonal hunting.
