Yup, I got a Marlin Xl in 30/06 and got the same results. Not bad for a $279 rifle. I think we have a winner!!

Thanks for the report. By the reports from others I am not surprised by these results. I may be looking at one of these in the future.

Looks like you did really well for keeping it under $500.

I wast thinking about getting one in 30-06 to put my new Vortex Viper on. I wish they had one in .308. How low can you adjust the trigger down to?

Bought that gun this year in 270 and I get really good groups too. But I would have got the 25-06 if it had been in stock. Want to trade?

I had the XL7 in .270win with Syn Stock, and it kicked like a mule... so I'm thinking the laminated stock will work great on the 270 or 30-06... even 25-06. But I guess some say I'm a weinie and recoil sensitive. If I can shoot a 40mm M203 or SAW without issue, then I would think a .270 wouldn't bother me either.... But the stocks are not built for recoil dampening for women, small children, and small framed men like myself.

I've shot .30-06 and .270win/wsm with wooden/laminated stocks that were NOTHING compared to an empty fiberglass/synthetic stock that the Mossberg and XLs come with.

Laminated and wooden is for me all the way from now on, unless it's a Synthetic like what remington sells with their Varmint, Varmint Tactical or other similar style rifles. YMMV.

Recoil is a non issue I did have a remington 270 in a synthetic stock that kicked like a mule. The recoil pad on these marlins are top notch my wife shoots one in 308 with a 165gr bullet and it dosent bother her.

Just bought one on Saturday in 270, haven't gotten to put some rounds through it yet but haven't heard a negative thing about them yet.

Academy has them on clearance right now for $259.99. That's a steal of a price, couldn't pass it up.

My FAVORITE caliber!! From the looks of the paper, it doesn't look like many animals will be runnin' too far before they hit the ground!

I'm on the hunt for a 308. Local Academy doesn't have any and can't tell me when they will. If anybody runs into one, let me know.

You want to get rid of yours Oliver?
