    High polish or matte blue?

I am in the process of ordering a new semi-custom rifle. It will have a classic walnut stock and be blued. I can't decide whether to get a matte or a high polish finish. I have a high polish finish on my Mod 70 and it looks great. The high polish looks great in pics too, but I also like the look of the matte. And matte will be different than what I have already. I ordered matte but am wavering based on some pics I've seen of their high polish guns. They are VERY nice.

So what should I do - matte or high polish?

To me, high polished rifles SCREAM "safe queen".

I'd stay with the matte if you're actually going to use it.

It's gonna be a "safe queen" that I will use. My 15+ year old Mod 70 looks dang close to new and it was my only rifle for a LONG time.

The high polish turns a weapon into a piece of art.

If I was going to USE it (as in throw it in the front seat and ride around the ranch with it) then I would go Matte. If I was going to use it, but care for it, I would go high polish. If it was mine, I would go high polish and make sure it was taken good care of.

This is pretty much what I'm thinking now. Use it but take very good care of it.

I just traded my basically brand new Winchester SX3 shotgun off for a Sako rifle sight unseen other than pictures in the classifieds. When I got it Christmas Eve I could not beleive how beautiful this rifle was. It is one of those rifles that looks to nice to be hunting with, but I love it and just plan on taking good care of it when hunting. Some folks don't want a rifle or bow that they can't just lay around where ever they want. I don't mind being cautious of where I lay, sit, or use my rifle or bow so having a really "flusy" weapon does not bother me

I think we are the same Cody. For whatever reason I do not like to have beat up equipment, no matter how well it performs. For me it's easy to be cautious in the field and still keep something in excellent aesthetic condition.

The more I think about it the more I want this gun to be kind of an heirloom gun. Something I can hunt with forever and give to my son when the time comes. It would also be nice to have the guys at the lease ogle it a bit when I bring it out. Ultimately it has to be a shooter, but having something that is custom built, beautiful and slightly exotic never hurt either Esp. for the $$ I'm going to be laying down for this baby.

I personally don't care for the high luster finishes. Mainly because they don't seem to hold up as well, and the reflect horribly in the sunlight and lastly I just don't care for the look.
