Looks like Estes, I stayed there 2 summers in 2001 & 2 and the elk are down low in the summer all around town and on the golf course. Usually in mid to late Sept. they gather up and head back to the higher meadows of the park, about the time the rut starts. We counted over 400 coming single file one morning behind our camper at the north entrance to the park. It was amazing to see that many elk migrating at one time but after that there wasn't one elk in the town area. Two years at 7 months at a time working in a RV park and my wife working at the Pewter shop down town, it was a wonderful way to be lay-ed off from our jobs in Houston, about broke us but that was living. Elk bugling 24hrs a day and Big Horn sheep at the back door, monster Mule deer eating out of your hand, Humming birds swarming like bees, it was a wonderful but short retirement.

A couple of years ago I was bringing some highschool kids back from a ski trip our church took them to in Co. We were only a few miles from the place we stayed, Horn Creek. I was driving my F250 pulling a 16ft trailer loaded with luggage. Out of now where from the right side of the road a herd of elk came running at the road. I let off the gas because roads were a little icey and we went right thru the middle of them and came to a slow stop without hitting any of them. I got right on the rear of two of them going down the middle of the road. I had four kids in my truck. The expressions on their faces were priceless, as sure as mine was to theirs. By the Grace of God we made it thru without hitting one or one of them hitting us.
It is an experience I will never forget.
