anyone use a covered feeder trough??

or have the rodents and other animals eaten all the feed in them? I was thinking about feeding protein in a covered trough(protection from rain only), not an expensive protein feeder.
Also, if you use one, what have feed have you put in it other than protein?

We feed protein that way and lose a lot due to rain storms. Not very efficient

seems like just humidity would make it gummy, too
