what do you consider a LONG bowfish shot?

sunday afternoon went south to a place to shoot some tilapia, saw them out there , but couldnt get a closer shot than 12-15 yds. I was using my wifes genesis w/ retreiver. I thought Id try it. It will shoot fish ok , right next to bank , but not enough juice for longer shots. Im starting to think about a inflatable boat, stinks being stuck on the bank sometime.

how far is a long shot to yall?

    Bank Stalker,
You may already be doing this but here is a suggestion...tilapia can see so well that if you are on the bank and have cover around you such as trees, brush, etc. then I recommend wearing camoflauge. When I started wearing camo, I was able to get up on them closer so now that is all I wear when I am bowfishing for tilapia.
Make all your movements slow and easy, just like you were stalking a whitetail.

    Sent you a PM also.

    Good Luck,

Im glad to see your answers. I was aggravated at myself not hitting ANY fish out there. I think /hope I can with the fishhawk Im getting, more# than genesis, but I guess I will see.

I got lucky once and hit a carp at about 20 yards. Didn't have anymore line on the 808 so it pulled loose. It was more of an hail Mary shot.

Shot a gar at about 15 yards one time. Like OPC said it was a Hail Mary shot.
Usually they are 5 yards or closer for a good accurate shot.

If you can see them that far away use a speargun and get wet!

Long shots (over 10 yards) and solid fiberglass arrows w/no fletching don't really go well together.

I am better at the 10-20 yrd shots than I am at the ones right by the boat.

                          thats true,,
but ive been practicing shooting fish arrows at a target,, with the barbs taken out, just leaving a point. Its interesting to see the way they fly. when you are just concentrating on what the spine is doing.
this wont help on my depth perception, guessing and aimin lower, but Im getting more consistent with them at a target , than I was when I started shooting them at foam.
yeah, sometimes after work I have too much time on my hands
