apple juice and jello mix???

On a recent thread about attractants someone said apple juice or jello mix works well as a deer attractant. Can anybody explain exactly how its applied?

I have read that apple juice is good for deer and jello mix for hogs.

Haven't heard of apple juice good for deer but do know jello is good for hogs, just sprinkle it on the ground.
