Potential for a 1.5yo Button Buck?

Does a one and a half year old button buck have any potential at all. What I'm seeing is clearly not a a fawn BB and is traveling alone. When I say button buck, I mean that the skin might be broken but "protruding" might be debatable. Definitely not what I'd call a spike. I have been feeding protein and making water available for a couple years so I would think that he should be at or near his potential.

As such, I'm thinking that he needs to go ASAP. Our biologist is NOT the "shoot all spikes" type but I'm thinking that this animal has limited potential at best.

Before I get a chance to talk to the biologist, I was just wondering what the braintrust thought.

how do you know it's a 1.5 year old deer, and not a deer that was born a little earlier than most of the fawns?

or even worse... a potentially awesome yearling.

I don't see the point in culling any deer under 3.5 years old.

I would have to say that he is an early fawn, I have never seen a bb otherwise. I am sure if you could see him with some other deer it would be easier to tell he is still smaller than you 1.5 year olds. Just my opinion but I would not cull him.

Probably just and early fawn that had a good year. I'd leave him.

Within reason we shoot nothing before 3.5yo. I wouldnt touch that deer. Too many unknowns.
