I'm looking for PDA advice. My wife wants one that is controlled by a stylus and has a calendar and excel. Any advice.....I know nothing about these little gadgets.

Go to the Palm website and check out the PDAs. I have the Z22 which is around $99.00! I love mine! I sync it up with home and work computer and have everything at my fingertips! Mine is not a phone nor do I do email from it so she may want something more advanced. I have calendar, contacts, pictures, notes, games (I play in the stand), journal and lots of other features! I would be lost without it. I love "paperless"!
Is 32MB and is lightweight for the purse!

i have an dell axim handheld i absolutely love it. Dell would be the only way i'd go. mine's a couple of years old though so i'm sure they've evolved. go to dell's website and pick through em. word, excel, access, calendar, datebook, windows media player. everything included. Dont waste your time w/ the non windows format pda's they arent wort the money and they dont sync as well imo with your windows programs. did i say get a dell yet?

I just bought the Palm Treo 700wx. It is a phone but is a PDA as well. It has internet, email, Windows mobile, Outlook, Excel, and Word. I spent about $400 for the device and a plan that covers everything. The great thing is you can connect it to you laptop and your phone becomes a modem and you can get right on the internet.

I have the Pocket PC from Cingular - the 8125. The only thing I DON'T like is the phone portion...it is operated via touch screen as well. Other than that, it is a pretty good device. I have owned Palm devices as well - they are excellent too. You can pay as little or as much as you want for PDAs.

Dell is discontinuing the Axim line and all handhelds (according to Michael Garfield/Houston Tech Radio Show). Hopefully they'll provide support.

I've got an Audiovox PC-6600 from Sprint. 400 MHz PocketPC running WindowsMobile 2003. They've got a 6700 out now, but the Sprint techs tell me the 6800 with the killer web speeds will be out in about a month or little more. It does all the Office things, Word, Excel, Outlook etc. WindowsMobile 5 that's on the 6700 and most current offerings does a little more, and a little less. WinMobile 6 is currently in Beta.
I like being able to use mine as both phone and PC. I've got a couple of additional programs that I use every day and having my whole Outlook address book with me at all times is often handy. The free AvantGO service that came with it keeps me up with all sorts of news from everywhere. Washington Post, World Net Daily, AccuWeather, PC World.com, MS Mobiles.com, Wired.com, HistoryChannel.com, Hollywood.com (movie reviews/times), and more. Google Maps Mobile which is new just flat ROCKS! Almost as good as GPS! Free for the download of course. Just Do It!
Downside? Phone is starting to mess up occasionally, but then it's now 22 months old. Time to turn it in for warrantee on that new 6800!Battery life is only one day, especially if you use it a lot... anything that powers a full screen will suck battery juice! I plug it into it's computer cradle every night!
Bottom line? I like mine!
Get on www.Google.com and enter "Pocket PC". You'll find all kinds of info.

That iPhone is pretty sweet Chew, but it's got a couple of things about it too. They all do really! There's no way of adding programs to it. What you buy is all, no more. PocketPC's are real computers versus what they call SmartPhones. Otherwise, Apple really knocked off a killer I think. Soon as they make it an iMacPhone, it'll be awesome!

Used to be for medical professionals, that there were lots more programs in the palm OS format, but don't think that is the case anymore. I had to go with a color screen last year for my tired old eyes . Tried to upgrade and found most of my programs that were older could not transfer to the new device format. Think I'm just going to bite the bullet. They are amazing for medical reference, pharmocology, and growth references. Good luck! Logan
