I'm heading to Eagle pass for a little hunting. Taking my bow, my .243 Wssm and my camera. Rented a 100-400 mm lens for the trip and I'm pumped! I know I ask before but,,,, what's going on down there right now, and what should I expect in another week, ( week after New Years), actually the 6th thru the 10th? Any ideas?

Anyone have the latest news from Maverick county this weekend? Or the surrounding counties? Kinney, Uvalde, Zavala, Dimmit, Webb? Is the rut still going on? I leave Tues., night, hopefully will be in a blind by Wed., afternoon.

Typically in Zavalla County that time of year typically coincides with the back side of the rut. Still some chasing goin on, but expect some busted up antlers. I know this is not the LATEST cause I havent been down to our place since Thanksgiving, but hopefully it can give you an idea of whats instore.

Watch out for some yotes or drug runners wearin pure black. They've been traveling the caterina to pass carrizo springs area and there bad news. Latest news I've heard was a week ago they were in caterina at a ranch and they raped a ranchers wife and then shot the rancher in the head when he walked through the door.... Sad stuff and a few days before that a buddy of mine was hunting off the glass ranch outside of carrizo and a group of guys wearing black with guns walked a circle around him and then left he just hid in the bottom if his pop up the whole time. Just be careful and shoot a biggin.

I was already going to carry a side arm, now it's going to be my S&W M&P .40 with two 15 round clips in my shoulder holster, and my .357 mag, on my hip, both with hollow points. Hopefully I won't have to worry about drug runners. But it doesn't hurt to be prepared. I just want this hunt to be fun, I don't need any drama.

ya im friends with a dimmit county dps and he hasnt heard any news about them lately so just keep safe but im sure everything will go smooth and youll bring back a biggin along with some LDP's
