If you were going to plant a food plot what would you plant (generic, name brand, type of plants, etc.)?

In my neck of the woods, Pineywoods
I planted bout 1/4 acre on my property just to see how it would work. The feedstore down the road had this Fall Mix, $20 for 50lbs. It had ryegrass, winter wheat, clover and winter peas. So I put out some triple13 and some lime to sweeten soil up. That stuff came up quick and the deer seem to love it now. They were too busy with acorns and corn so that gave it time to grow. Now long term, I am looking into some 3-5 yr stuff. Maybe some Tecomate, you know some stuff for spring time on through winter.Last edited by lunatic'hunter; 12-27-2009, 06:56 AM.

In the summer i'd plant cow peas, black eyed peas, and vetch.
The deer came out of the woods in the evening to hit this plot!!! I didn't plant one this year and what a HUGE mistake!!!! I have not seen 1/4 of the deer I normally see! The turnips and peas are pretty expensive I did about a 1/2 acre in them around my feeder by the food plot. Next year I'm planting all the above but adding some Biologic to the mix!! Here was mine starting to grow with everything above in.

I've tried everything over the years. The like Jaspros mix but I would use cereal rye instead of rye grass. I mainly use Buckforage oats w/ the Turnerseed wildlife mix mentioned above. Warm season plots are a gamble in Texas because of lack of rain and too much heat, if every year was like this last year we would have so much for the deer to eat they'd be big as elephants,j/k but it was a good year for growin plots.
