    ram and hog hunt...need advice

Merry Christmas to all hope santa was good to everyone

Im going on a hunt with Keith Johns Outdoors and need some help. I've never been on the place nor have I shot a ram...so any advice on what to look for in one or what is the best to shoot as far as meat, looks and one that doesn't stink too bad... i know goats do idk about rams? my choices are Corsican Ram, Black Hawaiian, Texas Dall, and a Catalina Goat. Next question, as anyone been on this place, if so what is the approx. shot distance? I shoot a single pin and didn't know what to sight it in at? My dad says I have the choice of stalking or blind hunting, I've never spot and stalked game before have no idea what to do. If I stalk I was wondering what kind of camo pattern to wear I'm not sure what the country is like there p.s. its in Floresville. Oh and last thing to yall recomend expandables or fixed blades with these two game animals? Any help is greatly appreciated, again merry christmas.

From my little experience the catalina is a stinking dude. My girlfriend killed one and it smelt terrible. I killed a corsican and it didnt smell bad at all. The guide said none of the rams were good to eat but i have heard people say they are fine, we didnt eat ours. Hope this helps

I'll be there in two weeks so let us have a hunt recap please. Good luck and good shooting. I've shot all the sheep listed plus Catalina goat and hybrid Ibex. I gave away all the meat I could. There's not much meat on any of those critters by the way.

I've shot a few on our place and didn't eat any of them. I've heard of people doing it, but I don't ever, and I haven't had any of our hunters eat any that they have taken. They are a fun bowhunt though, you should have a blast. Here is one that I shot at our place in March.

You should have zero ploblems in getting a shoot off on one of those animals. You should have a shot no farther than 20 yards, should be closer. You can shoot mechnical if you like. Keith like rage broadheads.

Ive never heard anything good about ram meat. I would focus on the hog as far as the meat goes. Rams are not very elusive so I would not worry about that too much. Enjoy yourself I heard Keith is a great guy.

Ive hunted Keiths a couple times and am going back in April. Most of your shots are going to be about 20 yards.
I shot a catalina goat there a couple years ago, brought some of the meat home. It was sweet but tougher than a rubber tire. I ground some and made the best chili Ive ever made.
Shoot what you want as far as broadhead but I have seen how tougher these critters are .I beleive you would be better off with a good cut on contact head.
Shoot tighter to the front leg than you do on a whitetail
Listen to Keith and Wade they will take good care of you.
                  Mike

stalking is more fun when your hunting hogs but not sure about the ram

I'm gunna be videoin for him on this hunt so hopefully we'll be able to post up somethn on it! Shoulda seen him jumpin up & down when he opened the gift box yesterday!

Forrest: thx for your input on this. We'll be hunting 22-24 Jan.
Lee: how do you process/cook the meat? It was kinda hard to pull the trigger on a ram hunt cos Dad raised be to eat what we killed. I'm gunna at least give it a try.
