    AR - How much $$

Got an offer from a friend wanting to sell a bushmaster AR-15 with 20 inch barrel in standard military setup, 5.56 cal for $1200. Used, but not much. He bought it new but I know he hasn't shot it much.

    Is this a reasonable deal?

too broad of a question. If it is a plain Izzy they sell new for about $950. but alot of furniture on one and you may be getting a deal.

I think you can get a new 16" for 1000, so unless it has accessories, I would say no. IMO, the 20" is not much better than the 16" and it is less popular. I haven't priced the 20" versions, but I would THINK they would cost less because they are less popular than the 16" and I KNOW the 16" can be had for around $1K.

^ What every one else said. Now that the gun craze is calming down the prices are as well. Unfortunately your friend prob bought at the top, I know a lot of people did. Heck even one of my was built when prices were at the top.

If you get some more details we can probably answer you better but like above if it's stock I'd pass or offer $900 tops.

Will have to look at the gun to get the details, he's not the kind who can rattle them off.

CDNN has S&W MP15 for like $789ish right now. $1200 seems steep to me but it is easy add value to an AR. Millions of combos/accessories.

I agree. You can buy a pretty sweet AR for $1200 these days.

Ok, So he was just throwing a # out based on what he recalls paying and is willing to negotiate. Sounds like he's trying to justify another gun purchase. He's going to get me more of the detailed specs. Where is a good source to look to get a variety of prices for similar models? Is there one of these online gun auction sites that you'd recommend as a good gauge. Want to come up with a fair price on both ends.

I'm not sure what I'd do with the gun, probably play with it a bit as-is, but then might turn it into a project gun with a varmit-style second upper of a larger caliber (6.5 grendel, or 6.8 SPC). . . .and I did notice that gun for the same price on the classifieds. . .
