Hunted San Saba starting on the evening of the 17th through Sunday the 20th.
First Hunt i took the bow and saw nothing! Friday Morning took the bow and saw nothing. Friday evening the same thing. Saturday I took the smoke pole and saw a young 4 point and a doe. I just could not get fired up enough to pull the trigger on the doe. Saturday evening nothing as well. Sunday morning took the smoke pole and nothing. While we were getting ready to pack up and leave the hog trap goes off by camp and we get a 154 pound blond pig. We decided to clean it and keep it. On the way out of town at the gas station as we are about to pull out I see horns in the back of a truck. It was a 154 inch double drop tine buck that was awesome. The fella that had it acted like no big deal. As I drove off i realized i should of took my camera phone and got pics.
side note -- Was asked to help work cows on saturday by some local cowboys and got a dose of the real world quick. I have never been exposed to this extremely hard work. It was awesome to say the least. We tagged ears, vaccinated for black leg, branded a few, and the best for last did some cutting on the bull calves. Well lets just say that I almost threw up watching the removal part OUCH!!! We also cut some horns off and blood was just pouring out. Very cool and I have a new found respect for all you guys that work cattle. I actually got home and crossed it off my future list of career choices.
As of today I am deerless with a bow for my first year bow hunting. I have had opportunities and just messed up due to nerves. I am definitely not complaining because I sure have not paid my dues just yet.
Good luck and sorry about the long post.
Sincerely,
Manwitaplan
