Hate to bring it up guys but one of the most important things you should do in the offseason is get screened for prostate cancer! Ladies you should urge your husbands and boyfriends to get the simple test as well. Just had one of my best buds pass in 09 after a 5 year battle and believe me it's not pretty in the end. You may not be old enough yet but Do Not put it off once you reach the age. And if you've lost your health insurance like so many have this is the one test that I would not hesitate to pay out of pocket--it is that crucial--early detected prostate cancer is very treatable. A simple blood test and yup "The Old Fickle Finger"--like my buddy says just tell the doc to use two fingers so you don't have to go for a second opinion! Seriously--Git-er-Done. Happy New Year!

Let me add, and I made this up and posted before. I lost my Dad to colorectal cancer on Sept. 16, 2001. Operation was on Ash Wednesday that year, he died 6 months and 1 week later.
My youngest brother had an emergency colonoscopy today my Mom called me an hour ago and told me. She said he told her everything's OK, I have not spoken with him. She was pretty upset which is understandable.
Let me add that the anesthesia that my Gastroenterologist gives -he warned me- you feel fine afterwards but can make absolutely crazy decisions. One patient of his was driving home and stopped at the Chevy dealer, and bought a new Corvette which was not in the budget. Another patient was a hard-charging Silicon Valley CEO "type", and went back to work and bought another company.Last edited by Bill; 12-18-2009, 05:33 PM.

I had my Colanoscoy 2 months ago and I am 38. Scared silly (of the procedure). It was simple. Recovery was instant. Never knew what happened. The hardest part for me was the hunger. You can not eat for 24hrs.
Get these test done.

I can answer any questions any of you may have about prostate cancer and the surgery. I did the PSA screening (elevated), had a biopsy and found I had cancer at 51. Had the surgery and now cancer free 12 years later
.
I do not recommend bowfishing as the ideal way to find out if you have cancer, bur whatever works for you!
Oh yeah, when the doctor does the manual examination, just make sure he does not have BOTH hands on your shoulders when checking you out.

Get checked, I lost my Dad 26 Feb 2006 from Prostate Cancer 3 Days before I was to deploy my 4th time overseas, got to go to the funeral and say good by and I love ya, but he fought for 11 years and it still won, I get checked every year, I figure if I can get shot and blown up I can get checked for my own sake.
