What rest do you use at the range for your rifle?

I don't claim to be the best shot in the world but I think a lot of the key to accurate shooting lies in the rest that is used. I have a couple of sand bag type rests, but they never seem to be the right height and therefore I am still fighting them to hold the gun on target. What type of rest do you use to sight in your rifles at the range?

I have considered one of the Caldwell Lead Sleds but they are kinda pricey and big to lug around.

Sand bags or the formed leather rests filled with sand.

Truck side mirror! I drop the steering wheel and rest my right elbow on it, while my left elbow on the window. A bit unconventional I know, but that's how a good portion of my shots are taken anyhow.

id think anything that is height adjustable in the front and secures the stock without torquing the barrel would work. i have been looking at this.

                      allen folding rifle rest

The lead sleds are pricey, but if you are really picky about being dead zero, and you spend the money to have the best equipment, you will not be disappointed with the accuracy you receive from the lead sled.

I use a Bald Eagle cast iron Slingshot with a windage top and one of his rear bags.

You are right Mike, any method is ok for checking your gun but you gotta have an adjustable rest if you want to really test and especially if you plan to do a lot of range time with different guns.

Sinclair International has some good rests too. Watch out for the sticker shok on these though amigo. They are lifetime investments & you can pick up some good used ones on benchrest.com classifieds.

I purchased two Lead Sled DFT's last year at auctions such as NWTF, and Ducks Unlimited, I paid under a $100 a piece.

Caldwell lead sled, to take human error out of zeroing, then sand bags or back pack for actual shooting conditions.
