    Deer Coming To Varmint Caller?

I was trying to call in a bobcat I missed the other day and a doe came into the the electric caller, I passed because I wasn't sure if it was legal to use an electric call to call deer.

After reading the hunting booklet I can't find where its illegal so I'm posting/asking.

I know its illegal here in NM. Not sure about TX. I have had elk and deer come into some of my stands. The mule deer does seem to be the most curious.

Some years ago, I had a nice young wt buck come to investigate the noise I made hammering nails into a 2x4 bracing for a stand. Deer are inquisitive.

If using a crying rabbit it sounds a lot like a hurt fawn and deer will come see what it is.

Not sure on whitetail but I have had Mulies come to a rabbit distress call. Had a doe so close I could have kissed her on the nose. I was sitting in some scrub oak calling and she walked right up to me. We were a 2' apart for about a minute. I blinks and she took flight. Electronic calls are fine for deer. Primos just came out with one this year. Sounds....well....electronic to me.

I was sawing limds and branchs clearing some shooting lanes last summer and had a nice 8 come up and stand not 40 yards from me and just stare. They are funny animals, if my stand squeeked, that same deer would turn himself inside out trying to get away from me.

Yes this is true. I have had as many as 7 deer come to a rabbit call at one time. It is not uncommon for deer to come to a rabbit call.

In the late 70's/early 80's when deer calls of any kind other than antler rattling was illegal, I had a weems fox/coyote/bobcat call that could make a sound like a bleat. It would call deer. I also had one with a blown out reed that I could make sound just like a cat squirrel, including squeal. I killed LOTS of squirrels with that predator call.
