Anyone ever plant alfalfa for food plot? I'm thinking of trying it next year, don't know how it will grow in Palo Pinto County. Thanks for any input.

We had 10 acres of it for 9 years in Eastland county. It takes a very well drained soil, and if you're going to cut it for hay it takes alot of water. If deer are all thats going to graze on it it won't need nearly as much water. You'll have to shred it after it blooms though or it will get tough and they won't eat it. Its also very expensive seed.
I'd look into vetch before I did alfalfa.
